SINCLAIRVILLE — The Valley Historical Society met recently at the Sinclairville Firehall dining room for their annual maple sugar party. President Larry Barmore welcomed all, and led the group in the Lord’s Prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Barmore. The financial report was given by treasurer John Sipos.
The maple syrup had to be heated to 232 degrees first, and then cooled to 110 degrees before each person could have a bowl full to stir. Preparing the syrup were Sue Alford, Amy Bly and Linda Lanphear. All were given a bowl full of syrup and told to stir it for about a half hour, then put it on crackers to enjoy. Pickles were provided to take away the sweetness. A memorable time was enjoyed by all.
The Valley Historical Society serves all of the Cassadaga Valley area, and was formed by the late John and Ruth Smith, and Walter Waite and Rev. John Rough in 1977. The museum located at the corner of Main and Lester Streets in the village was purchased one year later and is open for tours at no cost from May through September. New members are always welcome.
